About

My name is Eddie, and the woodenware at Sap Is Rising is handcrafted by me. I carve spoons, other kitchen utensils and homeware using my hands and a few simple tools.

When I was young, my family and I lived in a rural part of California. I had access to lots of wild space, so my most vivid memories as a child were playing, experimenting, and working with natural objects. Fast forward 30 years and I am still doing the same thing!

I now live in Liverpool with my partner and two young daughters who all enjoy exploring the wilds of the UK. We have a small plot of mature woodland in North Wales where I source most of the wood for my creations. It mostly contains ash, oak, elm, cherry, and hazel. I started carving shortly after purchasing the plot - there was so much beautiful material freely available that I just had to start making things out of it!  After carving nearly every day for a year, honing my skills with the few hand tools I use, I started selling some of my designs. I hope to inspire reverence for the earth by bringing natural, functional, and beautiful objects into people's homes.

You can read more about me and my thoughts on carving in my interview with Daniel Marcou.
